Home based business opportunities can be found in every newspaper and bulletin board we read and every social network site we visit. The promise to have a business of your own is alluring to those who want to earn extra income, and have more time to spend with family and friends.
Thousands of people have tried and failed so before making a decision to start a home based business consider the following:
Will I benefit from the product or service? Nothing sells a product better than your personal testimony. If you personally wouldn't use the product, why would you expect others to? Don't fall into the trap though of being your best customer. The point of your business is to earn money.
Do I know who my market is and how to reach them? When you are considering a home based opportunity, who will you sell your product to? How do you plan to reach the intended audience? Starting with friends and family is an obvious choice, but if you want your business to succeed you need to expand your customer base. Know who your customers will be before diving in.
Is the market saturated? How many other people offer the products or service you do in your immediate area? If there are several, how do you intend to set yourself apart from the competition? I've seen many offer discounts to get more customers. True appreciation for customer business is important, but offer too many discounts to too many people and you won't end up with a profit at the end of the day.
How much income do I hope to gain? If you truly enjoy the products and just want to sell to friends and family, you will benefit from a discounted price, but will not generate any real income. Know how much additional income you want in your budget each month, so you can clearly define sales goals. This will keep you motivated to find new customers and to show your products to others.
How much time am I willing to devote to make my business work? The old adage that you reap what you sow is true, particularly when building a business. Many people get easily discouraged when they do not realize a profit immediately. Building a business of any kind takes time and effort. You will be richly rewarded in wisdom and experience as you watch your business grow.
I hope my experience may help you find an opportunity that is right for you.
