A Soy Candle Making Business Is Not Easy

AppId is over the quota AppId is over the quota

If you are just starting out, or just thinking about starting, then you truly don't understand all the work which goes into candle making and marketing and selling.

This is the reason I made a decision to close down my company after 4 years. If I didn't have young children I may have stayed with it, but the fact that I have 3 boys (I only had 2 when I first started my soy candle business) and was working my business and trying to homeschool, and on top of that, living in a tiny home, I needed to make a choice on what my priorities were and I decided I wasn't enjoying the candle business all that much anymore although business kept improving, and so I shut the doors. Indeed it was because of growing customers that I chose to call it quits. The more buyers the more busy it got and I didn't have anyone to help me with it all!

That does not mean that you can't do it, and enjoy it though! Everyone is different and this business can work for you!

Below is a rundown of all the things involved with producing, marketing, and selling soy candles. If you can outsource a few of these things, it will make your business so much less demanding and you can focus more on your candle making!

Making soy candles from scratch (melting wax, preparing containers, placing wicks, cooling time, thinking up new scents, testing, testing, testing, cleaning up your mess, cleaning your tools)Purchasing suppliesAttaching tags and warning labels and any other decorationsPackaging your soy candles (mainly votives, tarts and tealights)Packaging for shippingPrinting shipping labelsMaking and caring for a websiteAnswering questionsMarketing your business whether online or offlinePreparing for and travelling to craft showsDid I mention updating your website??Doing taxes...Thinking and thinking and thinking all about this, that and all the things to do with soy candles!

Now, like I mentioned, if you can have enough money to pay some body to do some of those jobs previously mentioned, or you have a business partner to help, a good size kitchen (better yet a set apart area to work), then you will almost certainly have a much easier time of it!

I recognize I could have caused some hesitation in your mind of whether you want to even attempt this business, but really, you won't know until you try. I loved it the initial 2 years, it's just that I had quite a few other things I was trying to do too, so the candle business just didn't turn out to be fitting with the life style I wanted.

But I hope I've made you genuinely consider a few things and if you think you would like to give it a chance, then go for it! Procrastinating will get you nowhere, and, like I said, you won't know until you give it a shot!
